New Director of Social Justice and Community Impact
Dear Wheaton Community,
I am pleased to announce that Mr. Leonard “Lenny” Breton will join the Wheaton Community as the new Director of Social Justice and Community Impact on November 1, 2021.
Mr. Breton brings a wealth of experience in student development, diversity, equity, and inclusion within higher education. Mr. Breton joins Wheaton from St. John’s University, where he recently served as the Associate Director of Student Development and RISE Mentoring. During his tenure at St. John’s University, students praised his commitment to students and their academic success. Community members who participated in the search process noted Mr. Breton’s passion for working with students and his ability to build relationships across campus.
Mr. Breton’s professional involvements include serving as president of Higher Education Professionals of Long Island and New York City (LICSPA), the Equity and Inclusion Council, Athletics Council on Community, Culture, and Social Justice, and Respond and Partner to Engage our Community Team (Respect) at St. John’s University.
I would like to thank Associate Vice President Shaya Gregory Poku for her strong leadership and support for the Center for Social Justice and Community Impact. My thanks to the members of the search committee, especially Dean Irish, for their work in identifying and introducing candidates to the Wheaton Community.
