Social Networking Your Way to a Job
Last week, the New York Times featured an article that highlighted the fact that job seekers are increasingly looking online and at various social media outlets (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook) for jobs. While the days of corporate recruiters are by no means gone, it’s true that social media is a great way to connect with potential employers, build industry contacts, and highlight your own work. Moreover, in today’s market, every job or internship seeker needs to be on LinkedIn. And it’s not only about having an online presence, but having a consistent and appropriate virtual footprint. I certainly recommend reading the Times’ article, but for those Wheaton students interested in learning how to most effectively utilize social media websites such as LinkedIn, check back for an October workshop Career Services will be hosting that will cover various topics, including how to social network your way to a job.
