Writing Research as Process: Designing Assignments to Enhance Exploration and Critical Thought

Many of our classes culminate with a final essay or capstone project, but have we fully considered how students will achieve this goal? In this presentation, we’ll discuss the scaffolding of assignments in a way that validates and emphasizes the process of writing and research, not simply the product. We’ll look at samples of assignment sequences that guide the writing and research processes and call students to more fully engage in critical inquiry. Participants are encouraged but not required to bring assignments that they would like to scaffold with them to the presentation.

The Faculty Lunch talk is presented by Molly McGillicuddy, Visiting Instructor of English. The talk is scheduled to be held on Thursday, March 20th at 12:30 pm in President’s Dining Room. All are welcome to attend.
