Update: Tragedy in Paris
This message was distributed by email to students, faculty and staff on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015.
To the campus community,
I am personally saddened by the heinous and senseless attacks that have taken place in Paris, as is our entire community. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected by this violence.
We have been in touch with our students who are studying in Paris this semester, and we are relieved to report that they are safe. Staff members in the college’s Center for Global Education will stay in touch with them and the sponsoring program to monitor the situation and determine next steps. In addition, we also are supporting students here at Wheaton who are from Paris.
The evil and senseless violence that has caused such grievous loss of life is deeply disturbing. In such difficult times, it is important that we care for each other and lend support to those who need it.
The counseling center will be available to offer assistance on Monday. During the weekend, on-call staff can be reached by contacting Public Safety at (508) 286-8213. The U.S. State Department has established an information hotline (1-888-407-4747) for those who may be concerned about U.S. citizens in Paris.
Please join me in keeping the people of Paris in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Dennis M. Hanno
President, Wheaton College
