Update on Room and Board Refunds

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

We hope that you, your family and friends are all safe and healthy as we confront this COVID-19 outbreak. We know you have been through a lot these past weeks and life has been upended for all of us. Thank you for your patience as we have been initially focused on getting our students safely transitioned from campus and study away to safe locations for remote learning.

We want to take this opportunity to share with you our policy for room and board credits for the students who are no longer residing on campus for the spring term. These students will receive a credit equal to 50% of the spring housing and meal plan charges. The credit will not be reduced by the amount of financial aid you receive. We are cognizant of the fact that many families are feeling the economic challenges of this pandemic and hope that our decision to not offset the credit with aid shows our commitment to our students and their families during this challenging time.

For students who have left campus for the remainder of the semester, Student Financial Services will apply a credit in the amount of $3,524 to your student account. Aramark will roll over any non-meal plan Lyons Bucks to next term for all continuing students. Graduating students will receive credit on their student account equal to any non-meal plan Lyons Bucks that were not utilized.

The credits posted will first be applied towards any outstanding balance due, and will reduce or eliminate any remaining payment plan balances. Student Financial Services will work directly with TMS/Nelnet to adjust payment plan payments. If the adjustment creates a credit balance on your account, we will maintain that credit on your account and apply it to future charges unless you request a refund (visit our refunds page). For graduating students with credit balances, we will begin to process refunds in April. Students and authorized users will see posted credits in the Student Account Center within the next few days.

Although we are presently not physically located in our campus offices, please know we are virtually ready and available to assist you during regular office hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30-4:30 ET).  If you call Student Financial Services (508-286-8232), we will answer your question or return your call as quickly as possible. Alternatively, you may send an email to sfs@wheatoncollege.edu and you will hear back from us within 1-2 business days.

We appreciate your patience as we all learn to work and live in our new normal.

Sincerely,

Walter Caffey
