Classes will resume on Friday, March 9

The region-wide power outage has been addressed by National Grid and power has been restored to campus. Classes will resume on Friday, March 9, 2018, and the college will follow the regular schedule for Friday. Administrative offices also will open at that time.

Thanks for your patience and understanding during this incident, the region’s second power outage in one week. Once again, the campus may experience small interruptions as utility crews continue their work to restore power to homes and businesses throughout the region.

Buildings and facilities across campus are open and back on regular operating schedules, including Emerson Dining Hall, which has reopened.

Scheduled activities will take place as regularly scheduled. Both writing and subject tutoring will occur as scheduled this evening. Writing tutoring will occur in the library; subject tutoring in Kollett Hall.

Wheaton College and surrounding communities remains without electrical power. Classes will be canceled for the remainder of the day and administrative offices will remain closed as well. Scheduled activities for the morning are canceled.

The college is in contact with municipal officials and we have been informed that the source of the outage has been identified by National Grid and is being worked on now.

We will provide additional updates as soon as information is available on the utility’s restoration efforts for the campus and the surrounding area

Other campus facilities

Chase Dining Hall is open and is operating normally. Other dining facilities remain closed at this time.

The library also remains open and is fully powered, including outlets for charging electronic devices.

Mars Arts and Humanities, Watson Fine Arts, the Balfour-Hood Campus Center and the Mars Center for Science and Technology will remain open with partial power.

Driveways and parking lots across campus have been cleared as have most walkways. Snow clearing continues.

Classes will not be held this morning, and administrative offices will be closed, until 12 p.m. noon on Thursday, March 8, due to a power outage to the campus and surrounding communities caused by a nor’easter moving through the area. Scheduled activities for the morning are canceled.

At present, the college expects to open at 12 p.m. Classes would resume with those classes regularly scheduled to start at 12 p.m.

An update on campus conditions and the restoration of power will be sent to the campus community and posted online by 10 a.m. The college will be working with municipal officials to get updated information from National Grid on the utility’s restoration efforts.

Chase Dining Hall will open at its regularly scheduled time of 7 a.m. Other dining facilities will be closed due to the power outage.

The Madeleine Clark Wallace Library will open at 8:30 a.m. and the Haas Athletic Center will open at 8:30, both will full power.
