March 20 Message from the Alumni Association President

Dear Fellow Wheaton Alumni,

Following President Hanno’s recent communication to alumni about the realities facing all of us in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and, in particular, its impact on those in the Wheaton community, I wanted to share various ways that we, as alumni, can stay connected to and support Wheaton’s current students.

True to Wheaton’s culture, there has been an outpouring of support from alumni as students transition from campus housing and begin remote learning. Alumni also have extended offers to help our Office of Admission with their continued recruiting efforts for the Class of 2024. This is truly inspiring and appreciated! Please stay tuned for additional information about ways you can connect with students virtually in the coming weeks.

Also encouraging are the numbers of new Wheaton Fund gifts from alumni, parents, and friends. I want to personally thank those supporters for thinking of Wheaton in such a meaningful and immediately impactful way during these challenging times. A gift to the Wheaton Fund is the most direct way you can support students impacted by the recent life-altering changes on campus. I hope you will consider joining me in supporting an emergency student relief fund, through the Wheaton Fund, that will allow the college to continue to help our students in a myriad of ways (travel costs, supporting continuing pay for our Wheaton Work, Federal Work-Study and Resident Advisor students, and technology support as they shift to remote learning) as they navigate the numerous challenges and transitions ahead.

To make your Emergency Student Relief Fund contribution consider:

  • making your gift online
  • texting Wheaton Relief to 56512
  • or by any options listed on our Ways to Give page.

All donations will immediately and directly benefit our students. Thank you!

As we mark the 150th Anniversary of our Alumni Association, it is more important now than ever that we stay connected as a community and to each other. Here are a few ways we can stay connected during this period of social distancing:

  • Send a message of support and encouragement to our current students!
  • Share your favorite Wheaton memory for inclusion in a special 150th Anniversary Project.
  • Join the 2,000 alumni who already have completed their Oral History.
  • Nominate an alumna/us who has made an impact in their community, received recognition in their professional life, or are dedicated to the Wheaton community for an Alumni Achievement Award.

And, as always, follow Wheaton’s social media channels.

Thank you for all that you do for Wheaton College. We will be reaching out soon with ways you can connect with students and with the college virtually in the coming weeks.

Please stay safe so that you truly may have life and have it abundantly.

Sincerely,

Josh Bauchner ’95
