Jesse Shaw ’12 remixes Steve Reich

Senior music major Jesse Shaw completed a semester-long independent study in electronic dance music composition with a remix of Steve Reich’s famous piece “Violin Phase” Shaw, a saxophonist and guitarist as well as composer, studied acoustic songwriting at Wheaton before heading out to New Zealand during his junior year, where he became fascinated with dubstep and other EDM genres. Upon returning to campus, he set up camp in Wheaton’s recording studio, where, with the assistance of cutting-edge software applications like Reason 6 and ProTools, he created most of the tracks for an upcoming EP to be released this summer.  After a stellar academic career that included a senior seminar paper on remix culture, Jesse was awarded the music department’s top prize at the 2012 Honors Convocation.
