Composer Alvin Singleton Visits Wheaton

Esteemed American composer Alvin Singleton, former Composer-in-Residence with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, visited Wheaton in April. Singleton led a masterclass with students in Prof. Delvyn Case’s composition course as they prepared their works for a May 2012 reading session by the Kaleidoscope Chamber Ensemble. On April 13, the Great Woods Chamber Orchestra performed Singleton’s “Miaka Kumi” as part of its concert featuring music by African-American composers.  Singleton’s residency was funded by the Evelyn Danzig Haas ’39 Visiting Artist Program, which brings dozens of prominent artists to campus every year.
