Anonymous French photographer
La Goulue
c. 1920-9
Postcard, Vintage Silver Print
Purchased with the Kenneth C. and Louise McKeon Deemer ’33 Fund
This postcard depicts the celebrated cancan dancer Louise Weber (“La Goulue”) nearing the end of her life.
Nadine Biss ’13 reads it as a powerful image of death—both of the celebrity herself and of the more carefree French belle époque past with which she was associated.
