Students invited to share creative work in MLK Legacy showcase

As part of the annual campus-wide Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Celebration in February, Wheaton students are invited to submit creative work that offers tangible reflection on King’s philosophies and principles of equity, justice and/or peace to the Creative Arts Showcase.

Student submissions must be an original composition and can be: a short literary work (poetry fiction/narrative essay/blog/journal entry) or speech (submitted as an essay) up to 1,000 words; dramatic monologue, dialogue or spoken word of no more than 10 minutes; visual art; video; screenplay; dance; and music/song. First ($250), second ($150), and third ($100) prizes will be awarded to submissions garnering recognition for creativity, relevance and clarity of message.

All submissions will be displayed at the Creative Arts Showcase in February, the day of Wheaton’s MLK Legacy Celebration, and winners will be announced at the evening program. Information about the celebration, including announcement of this year’s keynote speaker, will be forthcoming.

A group of students, staff and faculty will evaluate the entries and award prizes to submissions. Creative arts submissions are being accepted now and are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2020.
