Student Animated Film Featured at 2021 Independent Film Festival Boston

The Last Dance, a short animated film by Visual Art senior Maggie Chen, is being featured at the 2021 Independent Film Festival Boston (IFFBoston) Student Showcase. Co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Production Coalition, the showcase features student work from area film, video, and art programs such as Wheaton College, Boston University, Emerson College, and MassArt.

Maggie Chen’s The Last Dance was written, produced, and animated over the 2020-21 academic year as her capstone project for the Visual Art major. It tells the story of a young girl who visits the grave of her brother and encounters his spirit. With a running time of three minutes and forty seconds, the film is comprised of more than 2,000 hand drawn frames. The film is also included in the 2021 Visual Art Senior Exhibition.

This is the second time Wheaton has participated in the IFFBoston Student Showcase. In 2018, Ellie Levine’s La Danse de L’Étranger was featured and won “Best Student Film”. This year’s showcase will forego a competition, instead celebrating all work that was successfully produced despite the pandemic.

The IFFBoston Student Showcase is available to stream 5/6 – 5/18 and is free to all attendees.
