Auguste Belloc
Female Nude

Salt Print from a Calotype Negative

Salt prints are distinct in their appearance because the photographic chemicals seep into the fibers of the paper, softening the image. As Lindsay Koso ’15 suggests, Belloc deliberately embraced this effect, to give his Female Nude a more painterly appearance.
