Lynn Holmgren ’05 Comes to Campus

Alumna Lynn Holmgren ’05 was a guest of the CW Program at its annual Majors Dinner this December where she talked with students majoring in Creative Writing and Literature. Lynn will complete her MFA degree at UMass Boston in Spring 2015. Her poetry and fiction have been published in Stoneboat, Hawaii Pacific Review (forthcoming), and Write on the DOT Vol. III. She is an organizer of the award-winning Write on the DOT reading series in Dorchester, MA where she has hosted Metaphoria, the Insta-Poet Challenge, and other original literary game shows. She has volunteered and mentored with the following Boston-based organizations: massmouth, The Drum, Teen Voices, and Grub Street. Before pursuing an MFA, Lynn worked for the Student Conservation Association in California, The Montana Conservation Corps, and spent a year living in rural Japan teaching English. If she could give any advice to aspiring Wheaton Fiction writers it would be to “play” in other genres – especially poetry and screenwriting. She says: “I have started to seriously read and write poetry during the last year and it has given me the ability to be a better editor of my prose, creating tighter sentences for maximum impact.”
