Film Festival Success – Spring 2023 Edition

Wheaton filmmakers and recent alumni have had a successful start to the 2023 Film Festival Circuit.

Elias Stevens ‘25, Jasper Wygmans ‘25, and Jade Shockley ‘23 are having their short film, Cacophony screened at the Independent Film Festival Boston (IFFBoston) and the Acton Boxborough Cultural Council’s Our World Film Series Short Film Program. The film also received a 2023 Student Production Award honorable mention from the New England Emmys chapter. Cacophony was produced collaboratively in FNMS 260 Production I as a final film project and stars Reka Moscarelli ’25, Gardy Converse ’24, and Thomas Bleakney ’26. Cacophony will be screened as part of the IFFBoston student showcase on April 29th at 1:00pm at the Somerville Theater. 

A Lost Sense by Cole Paul ’23 has been selected by the Fantasci Short Film Festival in Orlando, FL.

Allison Chaves ‘21 recently screened her film Heart at the Mass Indie Film Fest, where it won its first award for Outstanding Achievement in the Dance Film category! The film was produced as Allison’s capstone project in the Film and New Media Senior Seminar.

Bruises, written and directed by Mina Wakabayashi ’24, will screen at the Talking It Out Virtual Film Festival in Support of Mental Health Awareness. The film also received a 2023 Student Production Award honorable mention in the long form category from the New England Emmys chapter.
