Mark Baumer ’07
Fiction Writer | Providence, RI
For the past two years I’ve been writing fiction in Brown University’s MFA Literary Arts program. While in the program I’ve written about America, Yachts, and CEOs. In the summer of 2010, between my first and second year at Brown, I walked across America. I’ll never really know why some things happen and others don’t, but I’m pretty sure I would have ended up in a ditch if I studied something like Economics at Wheaton. Luckily, I found the English Department. The classes kept me interested for my first three years. It was in senior year in a playwriting course that my life changed. My professor taught me how to fall in love with the impossible and how to truly write in my own unique style. I would not be who I am today or at Brown without her.
p.s. One of my best friends majored in Economics and English at Wheaton and he just completed his Ph.D in Economics at Boston College.
