The Urgency of Teacher Racial/Ethnic Diversity

At 5PM on Wednesday, September 28, Professor Travis J. Bristol of the Boston University School of Education will deliver a lecture titled “The Urgency of Teacher Racial/Ethnic Diversity in an Increasingly Diverse Society” in the Holman Room of Mary Lyon Hall.  Professor Bristol will discuss why teachers of color leave the profession at higher rates than their white colleagues despite calls from policymakers to increase the racial/ethnic diversity of the teaching force.  He will “highlight research that points to the “added-value” for students of color when taught by a teacher of color and provide guidance for re-searchers, policy makers and practitioners looking to recruit, support, and retain teachers of color.”  The talk is sponsored by the SGA, the Marshall Center for Intercultural Learning, the Center for Global Education, and the Education Club.  For more information: contact Scott Gelber at [email protected].
