Film Festival Success
Elias Stevens ‘25 won the first-runner up prize with his film Like Me at the 2024 Independent Film Festival Boston (IFFBoston) Student Showcase. The film, produced in the course Production II, tells the story of Malik discovering that he and college girlfriend Alicia come from different worlds, despite seemingly similar identities, when he is invited to her parent’s home for dinner. The film was shot over two days using the President’s House as its primary location.
The screening, held at the Somerville Theater in Davis Square, Somerville was co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Production Coalition and featured submissions from Boston University, Emerson College, Tufts University, Lesley University, MassArt, Suffolk University, Fitchburg State University, Bridgewater State University, and Middlesex Community College. The jury was composed of industry professionals working in Massachusetts; Michael & Shawn Rasmussen, Jessica Estelle Huggins, and Scott Lebeda.
Wheaton has been a consistent presence at the Student Film Showcase. Past film entries include Cacophony by Elias Stevens ‘25, My Buddy Jesus by Masa Mita ‘22, Last Dance by Maggie Chen ‘21, and La Danse De L’Etranger (The Dance of the Outsider) by Ellie Levine ‘18, which won the best-film prize.
