Walter Caffey

Walter Caffey is the Vice President for Enrollment and Dean of Admissions & Student Aid. Caffey leads the college’s admission and recruitment of prospective students and their families, both locally and globally. He also oversees Student Financial Services (SFS), providing assistance with student accounts and payment options, loan/debt counseling, recommendations about financing options, and additional financial aid guidance. The office also handles student employment. 

Prior to Wheaton, Caffey served as vice president for enrollment management at the University of New Haven. He helped bring in the three largest classes in the university’s history, while improving academic quality, better serving first-generation and underrepresented students, and stabilizing net tuition revenue. As an active advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, he grew the university’s underrepresented student population to an all-time high of 26 percent of the student body.

Prior to his time at the University of New Haven, Caffey was responsible for all facets of graduate and undergraduate admissions at Suffolk University as the vice president of enrollment planning and management. He spent 16 years at Suffolk, making a significant impact on students and their experience by bringing new and innovative ideas that led to enrollment growth as well as improved retention and graduation rates. He also served stints at both Dean College and Northeastern University, where he developed strong expertise in cross-campus collaboration, enrollment operations and systems, and promoting the benefits of experiential learning and high-impact educational practices.

Caffey earned his bachelor’s degree at Rhode Island College and his master’s degree at Northeastern University, and he brings considerable expertise to further strengthening the college’s recruitment of prospective students and their families, both locally and globally.
