Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Helene Pruszynski
Helene Pruszynski was a student at Wheaton College from 1976 until 1980. Her untimely death while interning in Denver was tragic at the time and remains so forty years later. The thoughts of the entire Wheaton community are with her family, friends and classmates as they continue to grieve Helene’s loss and manage the emotions of the new information recently brought forth by the law enforcement working on the case.
Helene was awarded a degree posthumously on May 31, 1980, cum laude. Wheaton College has honored her life and student leadership for decades with an annual leadership award and the Helene Pruszynski ’80 Scholarship. Both are awarded to seniors and their descriptions provide a small glimpse of who she was:
The Helene Pruszynski Leadership Award
A member of the class of 1980, Helene was chair of the Residential Hall Council. Her enthusiasm for life, her optimism and her dedication to the Wheaton community serve as an inspiration to all. This award is given to a senior dedicated to the Wheaton community who has enriched the campus environment through contributions to student life and commitments to others.
The Helene Pruszynski ’80 Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 1980 by family and friends in memory of Helene Pruszynski, Class of 1980. This endowed scholarship is awarded to a senior with preference to an English or Biology major.
The award and scholarship will take on even deeper meaning this year as we process yesterday’s news and continue to honor her life.
