Wheaton hosts international counselors
Wheaton College hosted the 2019 Massachusetts and Connecticut International Counselor Tour (MACT) on Monday, July 15. Thirty-three international school counselors and advisors from Canada, China, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Jamaica, Singapore, South Africa, the United States and Vietnam spent half a day on campus learning more about the programs available to students at Wheaton.
At Wheaton, the visiting counselors attended workshops presented by Professor of English Michael Drout (Lexomics and Digital Humanities), Associate Professor of Mathematics Rachelle DeCoste (STEM and Women in STEM at Wheaton) and Archivist and Records Manager Mark Armstrong (College Archive and Primary Source Research).
They toured campus and met with President Dennis Hanno, Associate Director of International Student Services Desnee Stevens, Dean of the Center for Global Education Gretchen Young, Filene Center Director Lisa Gavigan and Vice President for Marketing and Communications Gene Begin, as well as members of the Admission staff and students.
The visiting counselors were especially interested in how Wheaton’s curriculum is evolving under the new Compass requirements. It is a “great example of how small liberal arts colleges are adapting to the change in careers,” said Neeraj Mandhana, founder of the Mumbai-based Next Genius Foundation and an independent educational consultant.
The MACT is hosted every other year by a consortium of colleges and universities that include Wheaton College, Stonehill College, Connecticut College, Quinnipiac University, Wesleyan College, Clark University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the College of the Holy Cross.
