Diplomats in Training: The Model United Nations experience
On Monday, April 11th, members of Wheaton’s Model United Nations team will present their research and conclusions from the debate held within their committees at the Harvard and Five College Model United Nations conferences, both held in the spring semester of 2016.
The panelists will discuss their handling of a variety of political issues across a multitude of disciplines, including the 1979 situation in Democratic Kampuchea, institutionalizing pandemic and epidemic management in the World Health Organization, and the topic of universal jurisdiction in international law. Other panelists will discuss their opportunities to step into roles outside the UN framework, including as a Sydney Morning Herald journalist, Sheikh Mujibur Rehman of Bangladesh in 1971, and James Madison in 1787.
All members of the Wheaton community are invited and encouraged to attend this panel. The event will be held at 5pm on Monday, April 11th, in the Woolley Room in Mary Lyon Hall. We believe that these subjects touch and rely on numerous disciplines, and we hope that you will participate in our discussion to help further explore the diverse facets of the United Nations and governance as a whole.
