The Music of Stevie Wonder

February 27, 2015

Professor Matthew Allen and Wheaton student musicians pays tribute to one of America’s great composers, arrangers, and artistic visionaries. Stevie Wonder leapt into the forefront of American popular entertainment with his debut on Motown Records at the age of 11. By the time he turned 21 he was writing compositions of great musical and lyrical depth such as “Visions,” “Sir Duke”, and “Village Ghetto Land”. His 1976 double album “Songs in the Key of Life” has been compared by many critics to the Beatles’ “Sergeant Peppers” as a vital cultural document of a generation.
