Great Woods Chamber Orchestra presents “Sketches of Spain”
The 50-member Great Woods Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Prof. Delvyn Case, presented a concert of music inspired by Spain in December 2012. Headlining the concert was the acclaimed classical guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan, who joined the orchestra in a performance of Joaquin Rodrigo’s famous “Concierto de Aranjuez”. Supported by the Evelyn Danzig Haas ’39 Visiting Artist Program, Mr. Larget-Caplan will return to campus in 2013 to premiere music written for him by Wheaton student composers. The GWCO also presented a suite of music from the opera “Carmen” by French composer Georges Bizet. Rounding out the concert were performances by winners of Wheaton’s annual Concerto-Aria competition: Gordon Jones (cello) performing Faure’s “Elegy”, Gavin Mackie (piano) performing a movement from a Mozart piano concerto, and singers Maraike Crom, Allison Tetreault, Gavin Mackie, and Jake Dunn, performing the Benedictus from Mozart’s Requiem.
