Ethical Dilemmas Arising in Medical Practice
On Tuesday, 20 October Clay Merchant, MD, MPH, ScD made the first of this year’s Ethics and the Professions presentations to philosophy and pre-health students: “Ethical Dilemmas Arising in Medical Practice.” Dr. Merchant engaged students for nearly two hours in discussion about an ethical predicament facing third year medical student. The presentation brought home the point that medical professionals are called on to make extra-scientific and moral decisions.
The Ethics and the Professions presentations are supported by The Deemer Forum, the purpose of which is to encourage discussion and reflection on the importance of ethics as an essential ingredient in the code of professional conduct for a wide range of careers.
