Reading Sterling Brown and James Weldon Johnson’s 1931 Outline for the Study of the Poetry of American Negroes as an important but little known document from the Harlem renaissance, Professor christian will discuss this early study guide as an instance of the creative conflict that fueled the period’s collaborative ethos.
