Wheaton College will close all offices for Wednesday, March 14, and all scheduled campus events for the day will be canceled due to the winter storm that is expected to continue late into Tuesday evening.

The storm closure will affect all administrative offices. In departments that provide essential services, supervisors are responsible for coordinating schedules so that services continue. Non-essential personnel should not report for work on Wednesday. Staff on the second and third shift should report for work as normally scheduled.

Campus facilities

While offices are closed and scheduled activities are canceled, the Balfour Hood Campus Center will operate at reduced level for those students who have remained on campus for spring break. The campus center cafe will be open for food service from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Campus events planned for Wednesday during the day, including the Norton Institute for Continuing Education (NICE) class, will be canceled as well.

Precautions on campus

Although the college is currently on spring break, some students remain on campus, and we advise the Wheaton community to take precautions and be careful during the storm:

> Please make sure all windows and doors are closed and secured.

> Charge up electronic devices in case there is a power outage and remember that candles, and similar products, are not permitted in the residence halls.

> Be careful when moving about campus as campus roadways and pathways may be slippery due to drifting snow.

If you observe any damage to facilities or problems with college services, please report them to Public Safety as soon as possible so that staff can respond. The college expects to return to normal operations for Thursday, March 15.

Wheaton College will close all offices for Tuesday, March 13, and all scheduled events for the day will be canceled due to a late winter Nor’easter that is expected to begin overnight and bring between 12 and 18 inches of snow as well as wind gusts up to 50 m.p.h.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the region, noting that near-blizzard conditions are possible and that travel is expected to be extremely difficult and dangerous throughout the day.

The storm closure will affect all administrative offices. In departments that provide essential services, supervisors are responsible for coordinating schedules so that services continue. Non-essential personnel should not report for work on Tuesday, including both the first and second shift. Staff on the third shift will be notified of their status pending an analysis of the storm’s impact.

While offices are closed and scheduled activities are canceled, the Balfour Hood Campus Center will operate at reduced level for those students who have remained on campus for spring break. The campus center cafe will be open for food service from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Events planned for Tuesday, including the Norton Institute for Continuing Education (NICE) class “Keep the Home Fires Burning: Music during World War II,” will be canceled as well.

> Please make sure all windows and doors are closed and secured.

> Charge up electronic devices in case there is a power outage and remember that candles, and similar products, are not permitted in the residence halls.

> Be careful when moving about campus to avoid any falling tree branches and other debris driven by wind gusts, which are predicted to gust up to 50 miles per hour.

> Be alert to traffic when utilizing the crosswalks on Route 123. The storm may impede driver visibility.
